Winter is here and there! And this winter more than ever, we have a great desire for freedom, for fresh, fresh air. After all, we have deserved it in this somewhat bizarre period that we are currently living.
Whether with family, friends or as a couple, this winter, put on your hat and tie your scarf because I will take you to discover a little white paradise, that of Tignes, a resort dear to my heart since it is there that I used to come to ski throughout my childhood.
Presentation of Tignes
It is in Savoie, very close to the border with Italy that the Tignes resort opens its arms to you with its two centers of activity, Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret. With its neighbor Val d’Isère, it forms the vast Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area, formerly called “Espace Killy”, whose name pays homage to the former skier Jean-Claude Killy.
To get to know the place very well, I can tell you that there is something for all tastes and all levels as this ski area is vast and amply supplied. In a few figures, Espace Killy is:
- 163 tracks for a total of 300 km!
- 89 ski lifts (including 10 free)
- 2 funiculars
- 2 snowparks
- 2 glaciers
- And so many other assets that make it both a sporty and family resort.

But Tignes is not just a ski resort at the cutting edge of technology, it is much more than that. Spectacular hikes, unusual sporting activities, breathtaking views, gastronomy… In Tignes, we live fully winter and summer and we love it!
My essential activities in Tignes
Explore the ski area
What better way to start the day than to take a good shot of adrenaline and freedom by surveying the superb slopes of the ski area of the resort. Whether skiing or snowboarding, on blue or black slopes, you can only be delighted by the richness, diversity and quality of the slopes offered by the resort.
Indeed, it is in no less than 4 different sectors that you will be able to perfect your riding skills. More than enough to satisfy your desires for skiing and freedom:
- Tovière, which allows you to go towards Val d’Isère
- Les Brévières, to admire the unmissable arch of the Aiguille Percée, this exceptional summit which rises to more than 2,700 meters.
- Le Palet, where you can test your level in a snowpark
- La Grande Motte, the highest with this massif which rises to more than 3,600 meters. You can ski on the glacier in summer and winter!
Full of thrills at the Moonbike
What if you take advantage of your trip to Tignes to try something new? I found the perfect machine to fill up on thrills, the Moonbike!
Fast, silent and above all electric, these little marvels of technology are revolutionizing mobility in the mountains.
Once your Moonbike is well in hand, you can hit the slopes or venture into the woods, on the hiking trails, all in total silence and with great respect for the environment.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t try this activity during my last stay in Tignes for logistical reasons, but on my next visit, I go straight to Evolution 2 to remedy it!
Bask in the aqua-sports center
After a good day strolling the slopes on skis or moonbikes, there’s nothing like a moment of pure relaxation. Meet right next to Lac au Lagon, the aqua-sports center, where you can do good for your body thanks to the various activities on offer.
Swimming pool, wellness area with spa, hammam and jacuzzis or even fitness and bodybuilding room, all with a breathtaking view of the mountains, it is a real place to take a break and take care of yourself in an enchanted setting. .
Admire a sunset in Tovière
How about ending the day with awe-inspiring view? Just before sunset, go to Tignes le Lac to board a cable car that will take you straight to the top of Tovière, at 2,705 meters above sea level.
You will exit directly onto a 360 ° platform which offers a simply breathtaking panorama! Wrapped up in your hats, gloves and scarves, watch the sun slowly descend, letting its warm colors lick some of the region’s most beautiful peaks, with Mont Blanc in particular as a backdrop. Absolutely sublime.
Where to eat in Tignes?
It’s not a legend, skiing, the mountains, winter, it digs! And to better advise you on the best restaurants in Tignes, I had to devote myself to the cause… After a few very comforting dishes, I have selected my three favorite places for you to eat well in Tignes.
- Jeanne’s table – 14 avenue de la Grande Motte – Tignes
One of my favorites of the stay for the quality of the products and the cuisine served there. This restaurant of the Bouvier family offers Savoyard cuisine that is both generous and very fine, all in a warm and very authentic setting.
- The farm of the 3 nasturtiums – Route de la ferme – Tignes
It is in an enchanting setting that I am taking you to dinner this time since, as its name suggests, this restaurant is located in an authentic Savoyard farm. It is therefore under the eyes of curious goats that you can taste a superb raclette or many local specialties, such as many cheeses, all produced on site.
- The heart of the snow – Promenade de Tovière – Tignes
Directly in the resort at the foot of the Tignes le Lac slopes, the coeur des neiges restaurant offers a rich, varied and quality menu, a terrace (obviously heated) and above all a warm and friendly atmosphere. Everything we love after a good day skiing!
Where to go out in Tignes?
A ski holiday is also a desire to exchange ideas, to meet new people and to enjoy the warm atmospheres of cold winter evenings, whether in après-ski or until the end of the night. Two places caught my attention during my stay.
- Le Cocorico – Rue du Val Claret
At the foot of the Val Claret slopes, drop off your skis and push open the doors of Cocorico! More than an après-ski restaurant, it is a real place. We have a drink, we eat, we dance, we chat and above all we have fun. Every day, live concerts and DJs come to brighten up your end of the day, and that feels good!
- La Palette de Boulélé – Le Rosset district – Tignes
If you want to get away from the tourist scene and have a drink in an atmosphere like there is no other in Tignes, go to the bar of the Palette de Boulélé. A rallying point for seasonal workers in the evening, there is a different atmosphere than in the rest of the resort, very friendly, almost family.
You will be able to taste the mountain classics, assortments of quality cold meats and cheeses but also oysters, because why not ?!. Not to mention a very nice selection of wines. In short, a place as I love them, with a real soul and where time passes differently.
Where to sleep in Tignes?
During my stay in Tignes, I had the opportunity to test the Chalet Hotel Yeti, halfway between a hotel and apartments.
Located a few meters from the slopes of Tignes le Lac and its center, it is the ideal place to put your suitcases to live the Tignes experience in a warm and extremely comfortable setting. The Yeti is no less than 14 apartments made to accommodate 2 to 20 people available, all tastefully decorated with attention to detail, using materials that are both noble and respectful of the environment. Moreover, the entire residence, which rises over 5 floors, is heated by a wood pellet boiler.
Large living rooms with bay windows to admire the view, ultra-equipped kitchens, comfortable bedrooms and apartments connected to fiber, the apartments of the Yeti chalet hotel are real gems, perfect for a getaway with friends, family or couples.
In addition to the extremely comfortable apartments, the Yeti residence also offers an incredible wellness area with a Jacuzzi of crazy dimensions of 18m2! Sauna, hammam, yoga and fitness room and cold bath, for the more courageous, complete the well-being offer of this residence like no other. A real favorite !
