What to do in Tignes? My essentials – Travel Me Happy – Travel blog

Winter is here and there! And this winter more than ever, we have a great desire for freedom, for fresh, fresh air. After all, we have deserved it in this somewhat bizarre period that we are currently living.

Whether with family, friends or as a couple, this winter, put on your hat and tie your scarf because I will take you to discover a little white paradise, that of Tignes, a resort dear to my heart since it is there that I used to come to ski throughout my childhood.

Presentation of Tignes

It is in Savoie, very close to the border with Italy that the Tignes resort opens its arms to you with its two centers of activity, Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret. With its neighbor Val d’Isère, it forms the vast Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area, formerly called “Espace Killy”, whose name pays homage to the former skier Jean-Claude Killy.

To get to know the place very well, I can tell you that there is something for all tastes and all levels as this ski area is vast and amply supplied. In a few figures, Espace Killy is:

  • 163 tracks for a total of 300 km!
  • 89 ski lifts (including 10 free)
  • 2 funiculars
  • 2 snowparks
  • 2 glaciers
  • And so many other assets that make it both a sporty and family resort.

But Tignes is not just a ski resort at the cutting edge of technology, it is much more than that. Spectacular hikes, unusual sporting activities, breathtaking views, gastronomy… In Tignes, we live fully winter and summer and we love it!

My essential activities in Tignes

Explore the ski area

What better way to start the day than to take a good shot of adrenaline and freedom by surveying the superb slopes of the ski area of the resort. Whether skiing or snowboarding, on blue or black slopes, you can only be delighted by the richness, diversity and quality of the slopes offered by the resort.

Indeed, it is in no less than 4 different sectors that you will be able to perfect your riding skills. More than enough to satisfy your desires for skiing and freedom:

  • Tovière, which allows you to go towards Val d’Isère
  • Les Brévières, to admire the unmissable arch of the Aiguille Percée, this exceptional summit which rises to more than 2,700 meters.
  • Le Palet, where you can test your level in a snowpark
  • La Grande Motte, the highest with this massif which rises to more than 3,600 meters. You can ski on the glacier in summer and winter!

Full of thrills at the Moonbike

What if you take advantage of your trip to Tignes to try something new? I found the perfect machine to fill up on thrills, the Moonbike!

Fast, silent and above all electric, these little marvels of technology are revolutionizing mobility in the mountains.

Once your Moonbike is well in hand, you can hit the slopes or venture into the woods, on the hiking trails, all in total silence and with great respect for the environment.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t try this activity during my last stay in Tignes for logistical reasons, but on my next visit, I go straight to Evolution 2 to remedy it!

Bask in the aqua-sports center

After a good day strolling the slopes on skis or moonbikes, there’s nothing like a moment of pure relaxation. Meet right next to Lac au Lagon, the aqua-sports center, where you can do good for your body thanks to the various activities on offer.

Swimming pool, wellness area with spa, hammam and jacuzzis or even fitness and bodybuilding room, all with a breathtaking view of the mountains, it is a real place to take a break and take care of yourself in an enchanted setting. .

Admire a sunset in Tovière

How about ending the day with awe-inspiring view? Just before sunset, go to Tignes le Lac to board a cable car that will take you straight to the top of Tovière, at 2,705 meters above sea level.

You will exit directly onto a 360 ° platform which offers a simply breathtaking panorama! Wrapped up in your hats, gloves and scarves, watch the sun slowly descend, letting its warm colors lick some of the region’s most beautiful peaks, with Mont Blanc in particular as a backdrop. Absolutely sublime.
