Aside from Secret Invasion and The Marvels, Samuel L. Jackson confirms that he will reprise his role as Nick Fury in one more MCU Phase 4 project.
Samuel L. Jackson confirms that he will return as Nick Fury in a third MCU Phase 4 project. The actor has been a consistent figure in the franchise since Phase 1, assembling the Avengers for the first time in 2012. He’s been busy with other things towards the end of the Infinity Saga, but it appears as if he’s returning to the forefront of the universe.
While there are no plans for a Nick Fury standalone project, the actor is spearheading the upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. The project is expected to premiere at the end of the year or early 2023. However, that’s not going to be Jackson’s only outing as his Marvel character; he’s also going to appear in Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan. Now, however, the prolific actor shares that he’s also going to return to the universe via another big-screen project for Phase 4
During his recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Jackson looks back on his MCU journey thus far, opening up about having to sign a multi-picture deal early on. He then begins to talk about his recent work, saying how crazy it was to go from one Marvel Studios project to another. This is where he reveals that he’s also involved in Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Read his full answer below:
“Well, you know, it’s kind of strange when someone tells you they’re going to give you a nine-picture deal. You know, you go ‘How long am I going to stay alive to make nine pictures?’ Because it used to take a while to make a movie. It still kind of does, but people make two or three of them at a time. In the Marvel Universe…it’s crazy.”
“When I was in London just now. It was [Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania], and [The Marvels] was happening, and we were getting ready to do [Secret Invasion]. So it was like, three Marvel movies on one lot. I was kind of running around from place to place.”
Unfortunately, Jackson didn’t get into specifics about how he’s involved in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. For context, the upcoming third Ant-Man film will see the titular characters delve more into the Quantum Realm, which is tied to the existence of multiple realities, as seen in Avengers: Endgame. Meanwhile, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror is set to be the narrative’s primary villain. It’s curious how Fury fits into all of this, but it’s possible that as his role in MCU Phase 1, his appearance is just to establish a connection among Marvel Studios’ upcoming projects. In any case, Jackson’s confirmation certainly makes MCU Phase 4 more interesting.
After the Infinity Saga, Marvel Studios has been busy rebuilding the franchise. Currently, the focus has been on building the multiverse with projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As of now, there’s been no word on if Fury is involved in the Sam Raimi-directed flick. But, for what it’s worth, it’s safe to say that there’s a rhyme and reason to Fury’s forthcoming MCU appearances.
